Computer CORE offers free, online, basic computer skills classes to adults 18 and over. Adult learners should be residents of Virginia, DC or Maryland.

Excel, Level 2

Class Description

Excel Level 2 builds on the skills and concepts of Level I. Students enhanced skills and concepts aligned with Northstar Digital Literacy curriculum standards. Students enrolled in this intermediate-level course will learn now to manage more complex workbooks and formulas, and functions. Students will move beyond identify cells, utilizing auto fill and auto sum options onto Pivot tables and Pivot charts.

Class Description

English Conversation and Writing: This class is designed for students who speak English as a second language and have a comprehension level of approximately 4th or 5th grade. We will be practicing speaking English in a group setting, as well as practicing writing, grammar, and email etiquette. The goal of this class is to become more fluent in English speaking and writing and help use it in your day-to-day interaction and communication with others.

Intro to Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

Class Description

This 10-week online class introduces adult learners to the basics of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Students will become familiar with the ribbon and menu tools, practice changing font size and color, and learn simple ways to create and format documents and slides. The class is designed for beginners and focuses on building confidence with essential features used in everyday communication and presentations.

Class Description

Speaker Series: Each week Computer CORE invites a speaker to our virtual classroom. Speakers provide information on a specific topic and/or share their personal stories of how they came to work in their current field.

Students cover the basics of Google Workspace: setting up professional email for those without email, signing in and out of a Google account and navigating to commonly used applications like Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs. Google Calendar, and Google Slides. The differences and similarities between Google and Microsoft Office products will be explained.
